Yesterday on 20th of June was World Refugees Day where a day was given to reveal the suffering and miseries of refugees in all countries around the world in order to bring to the spotlight the problems they face in the journey of seeking asylum, and offer them help of all aspects in sympathy with them.
According to UNHCR: “the number of displaced people due to conflicts has reached the highest levels ever”, it reached almost 65.3 million people by the end of 2015; a raise of five million persons in one year where half of them were refugees from Syria, Afghanistan and Somalia.
Probably the goal of that day is to remind the world that there are refugees and to increase world awareness. Here the role of worldly known artists celebrities emerges for they propagate that day. They do that by posting phrases and videos on their personal pages and on all social media with which they express sympathy with refugees and call for supporting them.
Danya is a refugee in Germany said: ” most Syrians hate this day because it reminds them of their pains and miseries, we do not want celebrations nor we want them to remember us in a day and forget us and our case for the rest days, we want from you to put an end to the war taking place in our Homeland.. we want you to punish the murderer regime for what they commits displacing , torturing and shelling. Have not you asked yourselves why we have decided to abandon our country seeking asylum in your countries?.. we want to come back and live there in dignity; so stop claiming that you care about us”.
They escaped the life of war and panic searching for a safe life and peace which are missed nowadays in Syria. However, most Syrians who have gone through seeking asylum journey particularly in the European countries faced difficulties that was not taken into considerations; all those promises and nice dreams they imagined in mind faded in once arriving.
Mohanad from Idlib city narrates to us his suffering in Sweden: ” It has been two years since I became a refugee in Sweden and received residence, however till the moment I live in a camp in a room with five people. They justify that they face a dwelling crisis where they pay almost 70 percent of the rent in case one got a house”.
“We miss in our lives here privacy and comfort cause we can not live as we like where we have to commit to schedules in sleeping and eating; there is no difference between us and prisoners. All my friends in the camp regretful since we risk or lives experiencing difficulties to live here under their mercy and according to what they decide on us; most of us are perplexed between staying here taking what Allah decides for us or to come back home and live under the mercy of regime missiles and barrel bombs?
On World Refugee Day, Syrians are not looking for a revealing of their miseries, suffering or appeals to solve their cases for they get bored of the rhetoric of no good and lost hope of their world conferences. They want the world in general and Arab in specific for once to be united to stop blood shedding in wounded Syria so that they can return to it in peace as Syrians not refugees.
